Importance of Rest- Emotional, Spiritual and Physical Rest

Hey girl, hey!

So lately, I’ve been extremely focused on rest! Honestly, being in a world that admires hustling to the point of no rest is glorified. I can admit that as a blogger my flesh and my spirit wrestles from time to time when it comes to rest. My flesh says “work hard, you’re exhausted, but work harder!” and my spirit says “God already says it’s done. Do your part and let God do the rest“. You know, it’s all about balance and knowing that you have a part to play, but God really controls the outcome. I’m learning that when I let the thoughts of other individuals occupy my mind more than God, I will always wrestle. Today I wanted to share the importance of rest, not only physical rest, but emotional and spiritual rest. All aspects are important being that we are emotional, spiritual and physical beings. God understands all parts, therefore we need to tend to all!

Emotional Rest

As humans, we are emotional beings. Emotions are what drives us, inform us and causes us to make decisions consiciously or unconsiously. They are indicators and God totally understands that part of us. Although we are not supposed to be led by our emotions as believers, God promises that he will carry the burden of what we are feeling (Matthew 11:28-30). I know it sounds cliche, but whatever I’m feeling may not be valid. Getting in His presence gives room to lay everything down to get clarity and emotional rest. Emotions are strong and sometimes they can lead us to be extremely down and unproductive. Tough emotions like bitterness, anxiousness, worry and fear can consume us which in turn can affect how we show up in the world. Remember to keep it real in your prayers, God hears you and understands your emotions.

Spiritual Rest

Everyday we are facing the reality of this world, but there’s also a spiritual reality if you believe in God. I wouldn’t call it toxic positivity because I believe in feeling what you feel, but there’s a peace that God gives when we lean on Him. It isn’t covering up problems with scriptures as spiritual bandaids. It’s leaning into the invisible reality and realizing that God is sovereign. It’s trusting, yielding and knowing that being led by the spirit is the way to get peace. It’s not easy because we usually are led by what we see, but isn’t God sovereign and all knowing? Ask God to be sensitive to His spirit. If you haven’t done a study on the holy spirit, I encourage you to do so. Spiritual rest isn’t fictional or unattainable. It’s very attainable.

Physical Rest

Physical rest allows us to show up daily within our calling, effectively. In Mark 6:31, we see the importance of rest for the disciples and Jesus himself. Rest is basically renewal for all parts of our body. If we get the physical rest, we are then able to walk in our calling with a fresh mind and healthy body. Although the world may say “nobody cares, work harder“, God wants you to be effective for his kingdom. That means, rest. It’s so important!

Until next time y’all <3

I was so inspired by @kyramknox this past week. In I was so inspired by @kyramknox this past week. In her stories she spoke about her growth in regards to learning how to be okay failing publicly. It spoke volumes to me.

Simply put, whatever you are building or creating, growth will not be linear. There will be lows and highs. Either way, through each season, you learn. Learning to replace “that was a fail” with “I learned from this situation”. Sometimes people let the fear of failing stop them from creating anything at all. Feel the fear, and do it anyway is the motto for me this year. I’m praying we all step out to showcase our gifts to the world fearlessly this year. Bet on yourself. You either win or learn. Myself included ❤️.

I grew up going with my mom to the gym almost ever I grew up going with my mom to the gym almost every Saturday with my sisters. We would all travel on the A train downtown with her to go to the Lucille Roberts on Fulton just to sit in the children’s room 😆. Fun fact, later on I was a desk girl at the same location selling memberships!

My mom was and still is committed to working out heavy. Sis wakes up at 5 still and takes virtual classes. That’s one of things that my sisters and I have in common. We all are active because we saw that example.

Fitness of all types is one way I like to take care of myself mentally and physically. When Covid first started, I loved my home workouts! I used to crank up my soca, dancehall even gospel, and I got moving. Now that I moved and it takes work to make space in my living room, I enjoy going to the gym. The gym is my space to release, have me time, and most importantlyn work on a healthier lifestyle. It’s my self-care.

I'm still on this journey to a healthier lifestyle although motivation comes in waves. Some changes I've made lately is to eat less starchy foods + carbs, less sugar, more water, and working out at least 2 times per week. I’m planning to gradually increase this because Hubby also got me a foam roller, so maybe soreness won’t stop me 🤷🏾‍♀️ 😆.

Point is, self-care needs to be intentional and prioritized. It helps us to be fueled. On the blog, check out 3 ways to prioritize your self-care. Link in bio!
One thing about getting older is, you start to def One thing about getting older is, you start to define a lot of things for yourself. A lot of unlearning.

-What does success look like to me?
-What does healthy friendships look like to me?
-What does cultivating a healthy family look like to me?
-What qualities are serving me well and what needs work?

The inner work becomes real. Is this what happens when you get very close to being thirty? I'm like, what is going on 😆? Take me back to my early 20’s mindset! Anyways, happy Friday y'all! How are y’all feeling?
One thing about content creation, everything won’t go your way. But the comeback is always greater than the set back. 🤎

If you’ve reached a plateau (especially as a creator), while feeling discouraged ask God what he wants you to learn. One thing about me and God, we good. We know each other. If I need wisdom, I ask. That wisdom is everything. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”- James 1:5

So remember when I told you guys I was seeking out a therapist?
.
.
This journey is HARD. Therapy is very much a luxury. I honestly thought that this journey wasn’t THIS hard. Right now I’m still in my search and I’ve been reaching out to a lot of therapist that I’ve found via Therapy For Black Girls and Psychology Today.

I’ve been hit with:
-I’m not taking clients
-I’m not available after 4pm
-Or the session fee is just way to high for me to afford for a frequency that’s necessary (300/session 👀)

It’s easy to give up because its so much in “the search” part. It just made me send a prayer up for those struggling with mental health issues and therapy may not be accessible for them.

I’m trusting that by the end of this month, I will finally find “my match” and be on my way to digging into some deeper issues/habits behind my anxiety and other things about myself. I’m scheduling my first consultation this week so that’s def. a small win 🙌🏾.
