Being Secure In What You Do- Ipsy Creator Day!

Hey SSB Fam!

So, this past Friday I was invited by Ipsy to Creator Day 2018. This is my second Creator Day invite and I am so grateful. I’m exhausted too, but I wanted to stay up and write this post in real time HAHA. Every year Gen Beauty comes around and each time I take time to reflect. Not reflect on my subscriber count, how I “leveled up”, but just self-growth.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but I have been blogging for five years now. I feels like a long time, however I changed my purpose and finally got settled into who I am in the blog world about two years ago. You guys know that my main focus in’t beauty. I love a good (well, great) beat, but I know that life is so much more. I refuse to be “that influencer” posting multiple perfect photos with no substance. My faith, encouraging people and inspiring people means a lot to me.

However was that always comfortable to say? No.

You see, I always felt like the odd ball when I would give people my business card that had a cross and a scripture. I definitely thought to myself, “maybe this isn’t my space- being a faith beauty lifestyle blogger“. It wasn’t that I was denying God, but I felt that I had to keep the two separate. This time around, I was so confident when telling people about what I do (my faith included). Brands actually loved that I was able to incorporate my faith and was curious as to how I do so.

I say this to say, be secure in who you are. Just like the word says “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”. I would be crazy to gain a whole bunch of followers, yet lose the most important part of myself. I want to represent me and encourage others along the way. If that is not a brand or person’s cup of tea, so be it. Purpose needs to drive what I do. It’s the reason why I started this blog, why I share my struggles, the reason why I teach today.

It was definitely the Holy Spirit’s work within me that caused me to be this confident and secure in SoulStyleBeauty. I may not be the biggest influencer, but I sure will be helping others with what I do. I encourage you guys to have a why behind what you do and continuously visit that. Be Encouraged!

Keep fighting daily.

Love y’all!

Hey y’all 💕💐! It’s May…also Mental Hea Hey y’all 💕💐! It’s May…also Mental Health Awareness Month!

It has definitely taken some time for me to find out what "self care" truly means to me. While wellness is a trend on social media, I really hope that we are really taking care of ourselves when needed. I love to see black women taking care of themselves and moving with ease.

- * Healthy Habits in my Routine -
1. Journaling: Journaling can be so freeing. I use my journals to stamp things during therapy, during Bible study or just to mind dump.
2. Eating Balanced Meals: I feel like there isn't enough importance on how vital eating nutritious foods are. Trust, I love my feel good foods, but at my big age I know food plays a part in so many ways. It’s about balance.
3. Movement: The positive effects of moving my body has made my healing journey so much more intimate with myself. Movement is truly my second form of therapy.
4. Rest: I used to feel guilty resting from anything, but sometimes it’s totally needed. Step away to prioritize the important things: relationship with god, making those appointments (so important), having those conversations, feeling your emotions (still working on this) and just diving into real community vs. social media. Our work/productivity is not our worth. It’s okay to step away.
5. Unlearning and Learning: Whether it’s gods pruning process or realizations, unlearning and learning is important. It’s truly the only way to grow beyond what you’ve learned/know. Address the uncomfortable habits, feel the uncomfortable feelings, educate yourself on the things that matter. It will be life changing for you and your lineage.

As I get older, I become more intentional about my As I get older, I become more intentional about my choices and what to prioritize. One being, my health. Consistency is important, but for the right reasons. Here’s what helps me be consistent:

💪🏾 I no longer have a specific body goal. I focus on strength (physical and mental). I always say the gym is my second form of therapy lol.

💪🏾 All movement counts. All workouts don’t have to be super high impact, but enjoyable.

💪🏾 Involving my husband. We’ve both been in the gym and I love that we can both share things about our journey. Helps us bond.

💪🏾 Showing myself grace. All days won’t be perfect, but showing up matters

💪🏾 Don’t use the scale as a monitor. I don’t monitor my weight at all because getting stronger also leads to muscle gain. The scale may go up, but you appear more toned. This may trigger you and lead to you giving up. Don’t pay any mind to it.

So this first impressions video was taken over a m So this first impressions video was taken over a month ago, but I’ve been loving the @cosrx Snail Essence. I’m usually hesitant when trying new skincare products, but after doing research I wanted to try it!

First off, what is a Essence?
An Essence is a water-based skin care product that contains a high content of active ingredients. These actives hydrate, protect, and boost the overall health of skin.

An Essence should be applied to damp skin. When essence is applied to clean skin after using a cleanser and toner, it helps restore hydration to the skin cells. When it’s applied before serums and moisturizers, it helps the skin better absorb these products.

Either way is fine. I love this Essence because it has helped with hydration, skin texture and hyperpigmentation. I love it! Have you tried this product?

Even though I don’t believe pain is a prerequisite for growth, there are times where God uses struggles and hardships to correct us. Brings us out of something we don’t have no business in 😂. And, there are times when we're simply being given an opportunity for growth—being "trained" into a deeper faith.

It sucks sometime, but it’s all about perspective.

in my fitness girl era - saying no, setting bounda in my fitness girl era - saying no, setting boundaries, prioritizing my goals etc.
Things that have helped me be consistent:

✨Being okay with missing out: Honestly, no fomo here. At all.
✨ Recognizing Distractions: Putting your head down and worrying about your journey is the most peaceful thing. Build that awareness of controllable things that has your time + attention.
✨ Set realistic and sustainable goals: If you cannot make it to workout 5 days a week, do 2. Work your way up.
✨ Showing myself GRACE: progress over perfection. Showing up to do things that will evolve me physically and mentally is enough. Progress.
✨ Celebrating yourself: Self validation is very important. Get good with celebrating your wins. Value yourself over the outside accolades.
✨Getting good with systems: My therapist always says, if something goes wrong don’t criticize yourself. Always check your systems. Making lifestyle changes is all about systems (taking vitamins, fitness, meal prepping, grocery list, etc). How do you seamlessly make that apart of your lifestyle and cut out the barriers?
✨ Balanced Living: Still doing/eating things that I enjoy, but having balance is key.
