Being Secure In What You Do- Ipsy Creator Day!

Hey SSB Fam!

So, this past Friday I was invited by Ipsy to Creator Day 2018. This is my second Creator Day invite and I am so grateful. I’m exhausted too, but I wanted to stay up and write this post in real time HAHA. Every year Gen Beauty comes around and each time I take time to reflect. Not reflect on my subscriber count, how I “leveled up”, but just self-growth.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but I have been blogging for five years now. I feels like a long time, however I changed my purpose and finally got settled into who I am in the blog world about two years ago. You guys know that my main focus in’t beauty. I love a good (well, great) beat, but I know that life is so much more. I refuse to be “that influencer” posting multiple perfect photos with no substance. My faith, encouraging people and inspiring people means a lot to me.

However was that always comfortable to say? No.

You see, I always felt like the odd ball when I would give people my business card that had a cross and a scripture. I definitely thought to myself, “maybe this isn’t my space- being a faith beauty lifestyle blogger“. It wasn’t that I was denying God, but I felt that I had to keep the two separate. This time around, I was so confident when telling people about what I do (my faith included). Brands actually loved that I was able to incorporate my faith and was curious as to how I do so.

I say this to say, be secure in who you are. Just like the word says “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”. I would be crazy to gain a whole bunch of followers, yet lose the most important part of myself. I want to represent me and encourage others along the way. If that is not a brand or person’s cup of tea, so be it. Purpose needs to drive what I do. It’s the reason why I started this blog, why I share my struggles, the reason why I teach today.

It was definitely the Holy Spirit’s work within me that caused me to be this confident and secure in SoulStyleBeauty. I may not be the biggest influencer, but I sure will be helping others with what I do. I encourage you guys to have a why behind what you do and continuously visit that. Be Encouraged!

Keep fighting daily.

Love y’all!

Affirm this with me today. . . Sometimes I need to Affirm this with me today.
.
.
Sometimes I need to repeat this more than one time a day. Sometimes, I forget that God made me completely different from everyone else. Sometimes, I need to be reminded that what I have to share isn’t dumb or totally not necessary. Sometimes I need to be reminded to walk out regardless of who validates or confirms it.
.
.
Sometimes we are not acting out on whatever God tells us to do because of these things (myself included). We’re not perfect & confidence is def. not on an all time high 365 days of the week. When these moments come, speak over yourself ❤️.
Hey y'all! I think it's definitely time for anoth Hey y'all!

I think it's definitely time for another “10 Facts About Me” post because it's been a minute. So here it goes!

1. I was born and raised in Brooklyn,
NY (Canarsie). I loved every ounce of my childhood. I miss it actually. Jumping double dutch on the block with no worries 😆.
2. I have three sisters- Emara ( @endurancemome ), Emani ( @veganmani ) and my oldest sister Kiesha. I'm the middle child 💁🏾‍♀️.
3. I'm currently a Sped Teacher. Before this, I worked in Fashion for 4 years. My last job was at Ralph Lauren (dress division). I studied Fashion Design and Advertising, Marketing & Communications at F.I.T
4. I'm a YouTuber. I’ve been on the platform since the age of 21 on and off. This year I’ll be 30 and on it for 5 years consistently! There I talk all things I love- faith, self development, beauty and style.
5. I can say I’m def. an introvert. This doesn’t mean that I’m not loud, shy or won’t tell you about yourself if boundaries are crossed 😂. I simply need to recharge by myself. I love my own company.
6. My fave food is seafood! I love me some crab legs & crawfish. I’m a foodie though, so I love a lot of different types of food. So after covid you will def. see me out with hubby or friends at restaurants...or outside dining.
7. I hate small talk. I really like deeper conversations about things like goals, life and meaningful things. I love to joke too, but I love substance.
8. I love makeup and got into it because I used to Dance (shoutout to DDE!). I loved getting glam for dance shows and because of that my interest in makeup grew.
9. Random, but I get this question a lot. I met my husband at church. We both love kids and served in the kids ministry. His bestfriend introduced us and we got to talking. Now look 😆!
10. I’m only 5 feet. You know that kid that was first on line in elementary school? It me!

Lately my skin has been crazy dry lately due to th Lately my skin has been crazy dry lately due to the heat at home! I had to go on a search for a good moisturizer…and a humidifier girl! You guys know I don’t switch up on my skincare because (1) I love to stick to what I like and (2) it takes weeks (sometimes months) to figure out if something is truly working. I’m picky with skincare, but after trying the @Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream for over a month, I’m in love!

The Ultra Facial Cream has olive derived Squalane Oil. I discovered this oil a few months back and noticed my skin loved it. It actually hydrated my skin for a long period of time. Squalane Oil is a by product of Squalene Oil, a natural oil that the human body produces. Unfortunately it decreases in production as you age. Squalane is very similar and some of the benefits include boosting circulation which promotes the formation of collagen, it’s anti inflammatory and it provides superior hydration.

Due to the Squalane Oil within this product, my skin is hydrated, without The oiliness. It’s super lightweight. Just sharing a bomb moisturizer just incase you guys are facing the same dryness issue with your skin. Sharing is caring right? ❤️
One word for how you’re feeling today. Get ready One word for how you’re feeling today. Get ready, go! All emotions accepted lol.

For me, I’m feeling... blah 😂. Not super duper amazing, but not horrible. Maybe I need a nap 💤 bc #napscureeverything .
Growth... Some notes from yesterday’s #SOULfle Growth...

Some notes from yesterday’s #SOULflection ✨

One thing about growth is that it’s never linear. I have moments when I go two steps forward and one step back. When I feel stagnant, I like to self-reflect and invite God into that convo.

- Am I being teachable?
- Am I open to wisdom?
- Am I hearing from God?
- Am I willing to do the work or am I being lazy?

All these things can stunt your growth- mentally, spiritually and physically. Cheers to doing the work and keeping God at the forefront.

#Soulflections is a series on my YouTube channel ( #Soulflections is a series on my YouTube channel (every Monday) to basically discuss topics deeper than face value. I share some of my journey and it creates dialogue on topics like faith, self love, development and growth. I’ve touched on topics such as combatting negative thoughts, codependency within relationships and I just posted 6 Lessons I’ve learned in 2020 (link in bio).

One lesson that I’ve learned in 2020 is that change is inevitable. Knowing that this pandemic came outta nowhere and my wedding wasn’t as planned, it helped me to utilize and practice my resilience muscle. It helped me to make lemonade out of lemons.
