I’m Engaged!

Hey girl hey!

Happy September! Cheers to new goals, habits and things!

Soooo, I’ve been gone for good reasons this time. However, if you follow me on Instagram you would know this already. Girl, I got engaged! Yes, the boyfriend of my dreams got on one knee and proposed to little ol’ me.

A lot of people asked, “did you know it was coming?”

Yes, I did know. Last Spring, we started to take premarital classes at our church so it was evident that we both wanted to get married to each other at that point. By the way, I totally recommend premarital courses to everyone that wants to get married! Prior to premarital counseling, we’ve been together for about three years. We knew a lot about each other, but premarital counseling revealed so much more that we didn’t touch upon in our relationship.

Soooooo, I know you’re probably wondering “how did it happen?”

My boyfriend (now fiancé haha) and I planned to go to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for our last vacation. We’re both teachers so for our last summer vacay we decided to go for a bit of fun, relaxation and to refill spiritually. I signed up to go to the Pinky Promise conference which took place during the same time I was down there. By the way, I loooved Fort Lauderdale y’all! Call me boring, but there’s a time to go to Miami and there’s a time to just chill. That’s all I wanted, not a turn up haha!

Anyways, the day he proposed (July 25th) we had such a chill morning. I wore ZERO makeup (not even brows haha). We went to go get breakfast and then we both worked out at the gym. Shortly after, we went to the beach and just had a chill time. Jose (my fiancé), kept saying he had to call his co-worker to discuss school work so he stepped away to call. I found that to be odd because summer classes were done, but I let it slide. Shortly after the beach and the phone call,  it started to rain and we ended up just watching Black Love Doc. BEST SHOW EVER! I love the transparency and realness.

Anyways, Jose was going in the day before about having a date night the day of the proposal.

He wanted to have a romantic walk on the beach, but plans got cancelled due to the rain. WHOMP WHOMP! Pinky Promise was having Worship Night the same night, so I assumed that date night would be cancelled. Assuming this, I turned to Jose and said “I’m about to go to the worship night”. HE REFUSED Y’ALL! He never refuses worship and rarely goes in about a date night. He was like “No, you said you’re going to spend time with me today!”. Haha! Still, I didn’t think anything of it. He changed plans from walking on the beach to going to this bomb steak restaurant called Steak 954 located in the W Hotel. So good! After a short wardrobe crisis (because I under packed), we left to go to the restaurant. Thank God, I found a decent outfit.

We arrived to the restaurant and Jose seemed STRESSED!

I saw him whisper “oh my gosh” to himself. I kept asking him “what’s wrong?” and he kept saying “Nothing.”I got louder and louder because It was clear that he was hiding something! He then left the table out of nowhere. Guys, I thought he was sick haha. The waitress came over to take our order, but I said hold off on food because I think we have to go. He returned to the table and then said “ His chest hurts”. It was a bold face lie! He wanted me to empathize with him so I can get off his back. He then got up again! During this whole time he is communicating with the photographer and restaurant about the proposal. In my mind, I’m thinking he’s sick. He returned to the table and I start to express my love for him and how important it is to let me know things (especially because of his medical history). Tears even fell! Shortly after, the tone at the table lightened up and I showed him a video on Instagram of someone proposing to his girlfriend and the girlfriend said no. Probably the worst thing I could show him. I know! But the conversation kept flowing as normal.

Our waitress finally returned to the table with “complimentary champagne”.

She said “ I know that your day has not been going as planned so take this, go out front and just enjoy the beach”. Girl, she had me sold before we even ate the food! Mind you, this was all a setup to get me outside so he can propose. We get outside and Jose says “Emari, we’ve been together for a while. I put up with your stuff and you put up with mine. I can’t wait to spend my life with you.” My smart self said “well, I’m still waiting”. THEE PERFECT SEGUE.

He then took out the ring and asked “Will you marry me?”.

Of course, I said yes! I am head over hills and cannot wait to marry the love of my life. This year will be hectic and full of planning, but I’m sure it’s worth it.

FEATURED VIDEO

Yesterday’s sermon touched me. The words “you Yesterday’s sermon touched me. The words “you don’t need a plan b for your faith” convicted me to the core. We all heard the verse “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. The person that I am is someone very controlling who needs to know everything. Uncertainty gives me anxiety. That is just an indication of my faith not being where it needs to be. My faith is constantly tested and I can tell it’s in need of some strengthening. I constantly have to check myself on if I have more faith in myself, my plans, solely my works, and my spiritual health rather than God.

If that’s you, let’s make May a month of strengthening our faith. Faith isn’t uncertainty, it’s certain. It’s believing in who He is and believe that He is who he says He is. It doesn’t have to make sense and you don’t have to see it happen to believe it will. No plans necessary, according to your faith… YOUR FAITH be it unto you.

PERIODT, happy May.
Vegas Photo Dump Vegas was meh. I think that we w Vegas Photo Dump

Vegas was meh. I think that we would’ve had way more fun during the weekend vs. the weekdays so we gotta go back. No beach clubs were open and no performances 😩. That’s definitely more my speed. The weather wasn’t great either, but had to quickly remember that we needed this quality time. Hubby and I just moved, so sometimes you can operate more as business partners in marriage because you’re on go mode. Grateful to have spent some time away and together. 🤎

Happy New Year! 🎊🎆 We all know that 2021 wa Happy New Year! 🎊🎆
We all know that 2021 was crazy, but there’s always something to be grateful for.

-Starting therapy. Therapy is one of the best investments that I made this year. My therapist has and still is helping me in so many ways- as a wife, individually and professionally. Looking forward to more growth and healing.

-Celebrating myself- I had my first birthday party as an adult. I usually celebrate, but I don’t really like the whole “throw a party” thing. The attention gives me anxiety 😝. I did it and my friends and I had a blast.

-Letting go of limitations- There is nothing you can’t learn. Reading more and learning new things is something you can control. “There’s truly no amount of good vibes to come and save you. You gotta make the right choices”. Being apologetic about letting go of limits and making the right choices to help me spiritually, financially, mentally and physically. This will for sure continue this year!!!

Good health, joy and happiness to you all in this new year! 🎊

#SelfCareSunday Girl, it’s Sunday and you know #SelfCareSunday
Girl, it’s Sunday and you know I’m trying to get my life before the week starts 😆. That also means physically, spiritually and mentally. Here’s a reminder as we go into the work week.

Intrusive thoughts aren’t the ultimate truth 💭.

So before you work yourself up over something that isn’t your reality:
1. Stop, pause
2. Ask, is this the truth? Do I have any evidence of this?
3. Speak over yourself. Affirm the ultimate truth.
